It Wasn't Nothing

In March of 2020 I began work on a short film exploring a woman's relationship to home, looking at the ways in which she must fit and conform to her surroundings, and the trappings and limitations of a life of domesticity and housekeeping. 10 days later, due to the outbreak of Covid 19, Los Angeles county went into lockdown followed by similar measures all over the world.
Women, particularly mothers, have been affected disproportionately by these restrictions, primarily baring the brunt of domestic responsibilities, homeschooling and childcare. Domestic violence increased significantly as well as suicide rates as many of those without families have been in isolation within the confines of their homes.
People that shared homes were forced to make choices about who they trusted and who they should stay with. Those that were experiencing homelessness had to be housed in emergency shelters.
Our relationship with the idea of home has perhaps been changed forever as a result of the pandemic and in turn the multiple possible readings of this project are infinitely more complex.
