We’ve come so far

'We've come so far' was created over several years beginning in 2013 and culminating in the 'Love me' work shown in the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition in 2017.

The series was shortlisted for the FACK arts prize in 2013.

The works explore the use of technology and the internet to target women to harass, threaten and intimidate. The innocence of kids to carving ‘I hate you’ onto a school desk or ‘I love you’ into a tree compared to the violent misogyny of cyberbullying and trolling aimed primarily at women seems like a different world. The anonymity of social media creates a level of deindividuation that, combined with the logistical challenges faced by law enforcement, allows perpetrators to harass with almost complete impunity, the results of which can be devastating.

These works utilize phone apps to create kaleidoscope images that are then carved, scratched and etched into with blades, combining the analogue and hand drawn with the digital to create unique pieces.
